Since the late 70's Marina has been performing as a professional on Australian stages.
She had been described as one of Australia's young great talents displaying at an early
age her maturity in Flamenco and Flamenco Fusions with audiences left standing in
ovations applauding for more.
She had been described within the Spanish Community as being 'Gitana' possessing
'duende' the highest praises that can be given from within the flamenco circles. Once
described by Flamenco Artist Antonio Vargas as 'a dancer that holds nothing back'
Marina Lee Tamayo is high energy, elegant, furious and pure heart.
If we trace her Granadina blood line its easy to see her artistic influences.
Marina has performed in Theatre, Commercial and Independent Television, Short Film
and at Festivals as a featured soloist throughout her career and has worked on artistic
cutting edge and independent projects with international artists.
Over the last few years Marina has balanced her professional career with the raising of
her young children, teaching in both Australia and Spain whilst continuing her training in
Granada.
Her focus is in the training of students for performance, and also dedicates her time in
providing career paths for her students in teaching, training overseas and private
coaching.
Marina continues her on going support for local artists funding their promotion and
producing Flamenco shows within the community.
Marina has been invited to choreograph contemporary works for theatre, film, web ,
fashion industry, tablao and cabaret.
Marina's contributions to the Flamenco community in Spain and Australia has been vast
and comprehensive spanning to date a young 27 years.
Marina was the Founder and Director for the Adelaide Hills Performing Arts Centre,
South Australian rep for ADAP - The Australian Dance Assessment Programme 1993 -
1998, current member of The Pittwater Community Arts Council and Australian Dance
Council and the Director of Flamenco Australia 2000 - current.
Marina is a classically trained musician and studied at The Conservatorium of Music,
SA - SA School of Music studying music composition, School of Audio Engineering
obtaining a Diploma in Audio Engineering & Certificate in Production Engineering, SAE
Studios. Further musical studies have also included studies of Cello, Oboe, Pandereta,
Castanets , Flamenco Piano & Cajón. Academic studies include:
Project Management, Contract Law, Negotiations, Effective Communications,
Implementation and holds the following: Certificate in Business Systems Analysis -
TAFE, Certificate in Fitness Leadership (Theory) - TAFE, Certificates AMEB Pianoforte
& Theory - SA Conservatorium of Music, Certificates RAD /Cechetti Elementary, Music
Composition - School of Music, Certificate in ProductionEngineering - SAE, Diploma in

Produces professional productions and promotes talented Flamenco professionals
in both Australia and Spain.
Some recent works in Australia include the Choreographers Ball Carnival 2009 held
in Sydney Darling Harbour amongst professional dancers & choreographers from
the Film and video industry an\d from 'So you think you can dance series' presenting
her high energy work on percussion 'Ritmo y Compas' featuring acclaimed soloist
Roshanne Wijeyeratne , Flamenco del Mar and guitarist Tobi Masters.
Marina produced the first Australian Flamenco Forum with invited guest Antonio
Vargas held at The Bangarra Dance Theatre, an event that provided a rare
opportunity for students and Professionals alike to perform and study under the
direction of Antonio Vargas.
Amongst many successful events Marina also produces National Master classes
for international artists. Currently promoting Flamecco singer direct from Spain
Olayo Jimenez, and previously Belén Fernandez , Pepa Molina, Roshanne
Wijeyeratne, and Antonio Vargas.
Marina produces small to large events including Community festivals, private
functions, and events for the film, video and corporate sectors.
In line with supporting and promoting local Flamenco talent the recent Flamenco
production in Australia 'Tablao Flamenco' June 2009 by Flamenco del Mar and
invited guests , was an intimate passionate evening of Flamenco music, song &
dance with performances by leading professionals and students.
Marina Lee Tamayo produces & choreographs innovative dance works for various
festivals some of her past known works include her cutting edge work 'Colores de
la Vida' Bellingen Flamenco Festival 2001, Northern Rivers, the fusions of
Contemporary Dance , Classical Ballet, Boleadoras de South America, Traditional
Flamenco and Percussion interplays set in an Australian Desert landscape.
' Sevillanas' a Fusion with Classical Ballet and Violin in Bodies Contemporary
Dance Festival,Sydney .
For consecutive years Marina Lee Tamayo produced a series of Flamenco
workshops and classes for La Casa de Xoventude Galicia Spain Sponsored by the
Xunta de Galicia for its youth program in 2005, 2007, 2008 & 2009 and also holds
adult courses each year during summer.
Currently, Marina Lee Tamayo is working in conjunction with local artist Carolina
Fernandez in Galicia Spain, in the studio of creative arts 'Centro Creacions
Artisticas' of which she is Flamenco teacher in residence.
Marina Lee Tamayo successfully presented her latest short film work during the
Summer Festival 2005 for the Esteiro Surf Escola Shown in La Plaza de Estacion
de Autobses edited & directed by Tamayo, Galicia Spain and has produced several
DVD's for the school in 2006 & 2007 including Surf Jam and went on tour and filmed
Surf sessions in Chile,Peru, Portugal, France and North Spain.
